Effective Acne Products

Acne is not an easy condition to treat.  It is a disease of the skin that affects each individual differently and accordingly each case of serious acne has to be seen  separately to give it a proper treatment. While there is no catch-all treatment, which can be used for all kind of acne, a lot of trial and error method would be needed to find an effective treatment for each individual.

While there are a lot of acne products that are being mass-marketed as the best cure for acne, it is imperative to understand that the products that are marketed towards acne sufferers in general and those that can be brought off the shelf in the supermarket do not actually cure acne. These only manage, hide or hold back the symptoms of acne.  It is important to recognize this and also to realize that acne is not the resultant of poor hygiene.

If the acne is progressively getting worse, this cannot be remedied only by washing the skin frequently and by using an over the counter product. Medical advice needs to be taken for such cases and a stronger products that can be sourced only with prescription may need to be taken.  The treatment for Acne are diverse and range from, off the shelf, to over-the-counter creams, to prescription and surgical solutions.

While over the counter acne products are usually topical medicines that contain Benzoyl Peroxide or Salicylic Acid, these are generally used for treatment of mild acne cases where it is used to stop the acne and clear up some troublesome pimples.

The over the counter acne products can also be used during severe stages of acne in combination with other treatments. The Doctors generally recommend that the acne-infected area be cleaned gently with warm water and a mild soap, after which the topical treatment may be applied.

During the moderate or severe stage of acne, the doctors and dermatologists would use the combination of treatments to effectively bring down the disease. Light therapy and extraction are mostly used at the moderate stage and in combination with an oral antibiotic or a retinoid cream, again dependent on the observations and recommendations of ones doctor. Acne is a complex condition to cure and hence it is advised that there should not be any self medication done.

After the usage of an over-the-counter product and in the event that the same does not work, it shouldn’t be understood that the acne is incurable. A professional’s medical advice should be sought for. A doctor or a dermatologist will try to halt the progress of the acne, prevent the prossibility of acne scarring, by using different combination of products. To seriously fight and stop acne, one should learn about the latest acne fighting products that are being launched and how they would be working for the specific type of acne, from ones own doctor. One needs to be as aggressive about fighting acne as acne is about progressing step by step into a serious condition.

Posibility of Infection in Chicken Pox and Varicella

Monday, April 6th, 2009
Groshan Fabiola asked:

Caused by the varicella virus, Chicken pox is a very contagious disease ( viral infection). The word chicken pox has its roots in the Old English word ‘gican’ witch means ‘to itch’ or from the old French “chiche-pois” for chickpea, a description of the size of the lesion.

Being a childhood disease, 90% of the sick pacients are children under the age of 14 or younger. Chicken pox can strike at people at any time but it is most likely to occur most often in March, April, and May in temperate climates. Between 3.1 and 3.8 million (a number equal to all the birth of an year) cases of chickenpox would appear in people in the United States before the introduction of widespread vaccination.

The varicella virus is an enveloped, double-stranded DNA virus witch attaches its self to the wall of the cell it invades entering the cell afterwards. After it un coats it reaches the nucleus of the cell where it divides into virions that are later released out making it possible to infect other healthy cells.

The chickenpox virus is usually acquired by entering in direct contact with the infected fluid that the blisters contain, or by inhalation of the tiny respiratory droplets from the infected person’s lung. When a pacient carrying the varicella virus sneezes or coughs it releases the virus into the air in the form of tiny droplets. A person standing near the diseased is this way exposed to the virus, witch is inhaled with the tiny droplets containing it. Reaching the lung it is than carried throughout the body to the other organs and skin where it causes the all so known rashes. Before the rash is seen the virus makes havoc in the body’s organs and because the infection fever appears and even fatigue, joint pains, headache, and swollen glands. The usual incubation period for the chicken pox is 14 days but this period can range from 9 to 21 days.

The first visible signs of chicken pox appear on the skin, usually on the trunk, continuing afterwards to spread to the entire body. In the beginning the lesions are only 2 to 4 mm across but gradually they get bigger forming an irregular outline (rose petal). Later on it fills with a clear liquid only to get cloudy after 8 -12 hours, bursting afterwards. The liquid contained in the blister is considered to be very contagious. It eventually forms a crust that will fall of in some 7 days. The entire cycle of a blister last about 7 days only to let another one take its place somewhere else on the body. This taken in consideration it takes about a week for the lesions to stop appearing. Children are not sent back to school until the entire process has ended.

Some Important Things About Chicken Pox

Groshan Fabiola asked:

Chicken pox is a disease that is caused by a virus called varicella zoster. This conditions appears mostly when you are a child and it leaves no marks if treated. An adult can develop chicken pox as well, but only if he/ she did not have this disease in childhood. Chicken pox is very contagious.

The number of children that suffer from chicken pox is high than ninety percent of all children. Furthermore, all of these chicken pox cases happen before these children reach the age of twelve. Sometimes it is actually better to develop chicken pox because the risk of serious complications increases together with age. If you have had chicken pox as a child, you will never develop it again.

When your child suffers from chicken pox, he/ she will have symptoms very likely to those of the flu, but will also have symptoms that can only be found in chicken pox cases. Headache, fever, but a mild one, chills and muscle aches are the first symptoms that you will feel when suffering from chicken pox. This will happen about three or four days before the trade mark symptoms of chicken pox will appear. Rash is the next chicken pox symptom. This is very itchy and it can appear all over your child’ s body. This rash consists at first of red, tiny dots on his/ her body. They then turn into blisters filled with fluid, that will eventually turn into crusts and then fall off. The rash may be different from a chicken pox patent to another. Some may only have a few blisters on their body, wheres other will have their bodies practically covered by them. The period that your child will be most contagious when suffering from chicken pox is about two to three day before the appearance of the rash. Chicken pox in children will cure in about one week.

Chicken pox can lead to some serious complications, but less than ten percent of all chicken pox patients will suffer from them. Skin infections, pneumonia, infections of your child’ s blood or even brain may be the result of an untreated chicken pox case. This is the main reason why a doctor should be seen right away. There is also indicated that you get your child vaccinated against chicken pox. This vaccine is very safe and it gives good results.
