What is Basal Cell Carcinoma Skin Cancer?

Saturday, February 28th, 2009
Bertil Hjert asked:

A basal cell carcinoma skin cancer is the result of sun damage to the skin. The cancer tends to enlarge in a slow and steady pattern. It has the capability to spread to the tissue nearby. However, it cannot spread to the distant part of the body.

The best and the only way to detect this cancer is to go for a biopsy. The procedure involves removal of a small piece of the skin and letting a pathologist analyze it under the microscope in a medical laboratory.

The process does not work towards removing the cancer. It only takes off at the top just like the tip of an ice berg. Sometimes, the skin works towards healing once the biopsy is done as it starts growing over the cancer.

Now, this does not indicate that the cancer is gone. It just means that the cancer is covered with a layer of skin. In case, the cancer is not eliminated completely, it can get deep in to the skin and results in greater harm.

Basal cell carcinoma skin cancer is the most common type of cancer existing in the world. This cancer can be quite destructive and even disfiguring. It consists of the risk of developing serious skin problems.

People with family history of basal cell carcinoma skin cancer are more vulnerable to developing this disease. Also people who have exposed themselves to sunlight or exposed to carcinogenic chemicals such as arsenic are at greater risk of developing this disease.

The treatment of this dangerous disease is either via surgery, topical chemotherapy, cryosurgery, or photodynamic therapy. The disease is not life threatening. However, if left untreated, the disease can disfigure the skin, results in bleeding and even result in local destruction in areas such as eye, ear, nose and lip.

There are several types of basal cell carcinoma skin cancer as mentioned below:

a) Nodular

This appears as flesh colored papule with telangiectasis. In case, it becomes ulcerates, it

results in ‘rodent ulcer’. It is an ulcerating nodule with a pearly border.

b) Cystic

This is a rare type of basal cell carcinoma skin cancer and very difficult to distinguish from the nodular type. It has a cavity in the centre with fluid.

c) Pigmented

This is another variant of the nodular type of basal cell carcinoma skin cancer. This should not confuse with melanoma.

d) Sclerosing

It is a scar like lesion.

e) Superficial

This type of basal cell carcinoma skin cancer appears as a red scaling patch.

Basal cell carcinoma skin cancer may look different from normal skin. It may also appear as skin bump or a growth that looks pearly, waxy, white, light pink, flesh colored, brown or even flat.

Here are some symptoms of basal cell carcinoma skin cancer:

- A skin sore that may bleed easily

- A sore that does not heal properly

- Sore with crusting or oozing spots

- Sore just like a scar without an injured area.

- Irregular blood vessels around the spot

Rush to a skin doctor as soon as you observe some of the above symptoms.

Best Skin Products - Revitol Cellulite Cream

Saturday, February 28th, 2009
Skin Product Rpeort asked:

Revitol Cellulite Cream helps reduce the appearance of cellulite. Revitol Cellulite Cream can be used to assist in the appearance of tighter, healthier appearing skin in areas applied. With Revitol you can reduce the appearance of unwanted lumps and bumps. You just apply the cream for a smoother look.

Revitol would not work as well as it does without caffeine! Studies suggest that caffeine helps reduce the appearance of cellulite. However drinking more coffee will not give you the results you will see with Revitol, for the simple reason that the caffeine will never actually reach the fat cells that cause cellulite.

Caffeine works as a stimulant as well as a vasodilator; in the upper level of the dermis when applied topically and also widens the blood vessels in the area. When blood is allowed to move into the region the natural metabolic pathways of the body are stimulated to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

How long will a supply last you? This depends on how much area you need to cover; if you only need to use Revitol Cellulite cream on your upper thighs, then it will last you longer than when using it on your thighs, stomach and buttocks. It also depends on how much product you use and how often you reapply the product. Generally you should have at least a month’s supply with one jar of Revitol Cellulite Cream. Also make sure to use enough for the product to be absorbed completely, but not too much so you do not loose any cream because it rubs off on your clothing.

You are a dynamic beautiful person, so don’t let the cellulite hold you back! In a few weeks you could be wearing those **** dresses and skirts, without feeling self conscious!

Better Treatment: to Get Rid of Annoying Heat Rash

Friday, February 27th, 2009
Adam Frazer asked:

Heat rashes are common during hot and humid climate. Usually, heat rashes are supposed to be associated with tropical climate but sensitive skin is susceptible to heat rashes also in cold countries. Heat rashes can affect anyone irrespective of his/her age. This problem is also known as Miliaria, Miliaria Rubra, sweat rash, and prickly heat.

Our skin has pores over it; these pores are the part of excretion system of the body. The wasteful substances generated during metabolic activities come out from these pores in the form of perspiration (sweat). These pores are sometimes blocked with dead skin and bacteria of a particular class like Staphylococcus epidermidis. Due to no passage to come out, perspiration entraps beneath the skin. This causes the skin over it to acquire a form of blister. Generally, Staphylococcus attacks on specific parts of the body; therefore heat rashes affect only a small portion of the body. Armpits, thighs, back, neck, breast, scrotum, waist are the most prominent parts of the body where heat rashes attack predominantly. Wherever clothes are in friction with the body heat rashes are most likely to affect.

Heat rashes are very annoying; in less intense form heat rashes only cause itching but in malign form these can give pain like needles penetrated into the body. Generally, there is no need for the treatment of heat rashes. Heat rashes ipso-facto disappears from body within a month or two. Bathing with fresh and clean water is very relieving in heat rash problem. Bathing also helps in unplugging the closed pores of the skin. When the sweat pores are completely blocked, heat rashes can acquire more complicated form. In this condition severe heat rash beads like structure proliferate over the skin. This can block natural process of cooling the body, making body prone to heat stroke.

For prevention of heat rashes try to avoid going in hot and humid climate. Use clothes made of sweat absorbing material like cotton. Diaphanous fabric can provide fresh air to skin so that sweating should not block the pores of skin. Try to use air-conditioner if it is affordable and available. The simple basic thing which one has to do for prevention from heat rashes is ‘keeping body at a normal temperature and keeping it clean.’

Use of prickly heat powders and lotions can also be helpful in heat rashes. Use of steroid based topical cream can reduce itching effect of heat rashes. If your problem is intense, the doctor may prescribe some oral or topical antibiotics in coherence with other means of treating heat rash. This will reduce the growth of bacteria over the affected area and stop the spreading of the disease on other parts of the body. Giving vitamin A and C is also helpful in treatment of heat rashes.

A Summary of Some Common Skin Rashes in Babies

Thursday, February 26th, 2009
Cecilia Koh asked:

A rash is eruptions of red spots or patches on the skin and is a sign of an underlying problem caused by reactions to substances, allergies or infections

Cradle cap is a condition whereby patches of greasy yellow flakes and small pimple-like bumps appear on the scalps of healthy babies. Sometimes it may appear on the eyebrows, ears and other areas where sebaceous glands are located. It can occur in any baby, and appear during the early weeks of life and will clear by the sixth month. Some dermatologists think that high levels of maternal hormones are transmitted to the baby during the final weeks of pregnancy. This makes the sebaceous (oil) glands in the baby’s skin hyperactive which trigger overproduction of sebum which not only overstimulates the growth of new skin cells but also binds the old skin cells into flakes and crusts. It often has a mild unpleasant smell and does not cause any discomfort to the baby.

Some doctors recommend leaving it alone but I prefer to treat it early because I have seen many cases whereby the crust becomes so thick that whenever it is rubbed, large chunks of hair comes off leaving a very red and raw looking area. Treatment is to apply a liberal amount of baby oil to the affected area about 20 minutes before the baby’s bath. This will allow the crust to become soft and easy to remove. During the bath, apply a little baby shampoo to the head and using a soft hair brush or face cloth, gently brush or rub the crust off. Do this once a day until the crust has been completely removed. Sometimes it may recur after a few days so continue to wash baby’s hair in the same way. Once the baby’s sebaceous (oil) glands settle down the condition will disappear.

N.B. The oil application must be shampooed out to prevent an oily buildup which may make the condition worse. Do not try and remove the crusts and scales with the tip of a fingernail.

Heat rash consists of tiny blisters filled with sweat. It forms when the pores become blocked and prevent the sweat glands from releasing the sweat or when heat and humidity exceed the ability of the sweat glands to cool the body. Babies are especially vulnerable because their ability to sweat is not fully developed and they often wear or lie on waterproof materials. It normally develops around the neck, face, armpits and sometimes on the chest and back.

Western medication includes applying calamine lotion and antihistamines for severe itching. Sometimes applying a light dusting of corn starch powder may help to relieve the itchiness. Chinese traditional remedy is to bath the baby with boiled dried bitter gourd vine daily for 3 days.

It is best to prevent the condition from developing by dressing the baby in light cotton clothes especially in warm or hot weather. Avoid laying the baby on a plastic covered mattress or pad. Do not apply moisturizing cream or lotions or use bath oils for babies under 3 months as these products may clog the pores. Do not over wrap the baby in layers of clothes and swaddling blanket.

Nappy rash is often due to infrequent nappy change causing irritation from ammonia which is released when bacteria starts breaking down the contents of a dirty nappy. It could be due to an allergy to your washing powder or fabric conditioner if your baby wears cloth diapers or a food/drug allergy especially antibiotics. The ******* area, buttocks, groins and sometimes the upper thighs will look red and inflamed. It can be dry or moist and sometimes look pimply. Babies with nappy rash may be very fussy and cries frequently or does not seem bothered at all.

“Prevention is better than treatment” so the best defence against nappy rash is a dry bottom.

Infantile eczema is an itchy dry scaly rash usually seen on the cheeks or chin, but may show up on the head, trunk, back of arms, or front of legs and is not contagious. It is first noticed at 2 to 5 months of age and is most common in families with history of allergies or asthma. In most cases it will settle down by the time the child reaches school age but for some it may continue to be a life long problem. The frequency and severity of flare ups can be dramatically reduced with careful daily washing using a hypoallergenic soap and applying moisturisers, topical steroids when needed. Avoid trigger factors such as excessive sweating, woollen clothing, soaps and bubble bath. Sometimes it may be necessary to give baby antihistamine if the itch is very intense and is making the baby very irritable.

Sometimes the eczema can become infected by bacteria and this causes extensive redness, swelling and weeping of the affected area. In this case it may be necessary for the doctor to prescribe an antibiotic cream together with a steroid cream. Children with severe eczema usually also have hay fever and asthma.

Urticaria or hives are red or pink raised areas on the skin that are very itchy and warm to the touch. It may appear on any part of the body and usually last from a few hours to a few days, but can stay for weeks or even months in some cases. Hives are usually caused by food allergies with the most frequent culprits being eggs, shellfish, chocolate, food additives, colouring or preservatives. It can also be due to allergy to certain drugs or in response to contact with animals especially cats or from insect bites.

It may come on after exposure to extreme temperature especially heat or chemicals. Most often hives will disappear on its own after the allergic reaction is over. If it causes itching and discomfort, the doctor may prescribe an oral antihistamine and calamine lotion to apply on the rashes. Avoid giving your child allergy causing food until the hives have subsided. Later try to find the offending culprit by reintroducing the food item one at a time and once you know the offending food it is important to let your child’s caretakers or school teachers know so that the food is avoided. This is because very rarely, hives can develop in the mouth and throat which can obstruct the child’s airways. You can put this information on sticker labels on your child’s feeding utensils especially in preschools when your child is too young to tell the caretakers.

Traditional Chinese therapy recommends not bathing the child as it will cause more rashes to appear and make the rash itch more. Treatment is to heat up some rice wine and apply it on the rashes 3 times a day. Most often the rashes will disappear after 2 days.

Hand foot and mouth disease (HFMD) is a skin rash with flat or raised red spots on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet and sometimes on the buttocks. Often the rash will form tiny blisters which look like the chickenpox rash but it does not itch. A day or two later the child may develop sores or blisters on the tongue, gums and inside of the cheeks. They begin as small red spots on the tongue, gums or mucous membranes which then develop into blisters or sores.

It is caused by Coxsackie virus A16 which belongs to a group of viruses called enterovirus and is normally not serious. Infection is spread by direct contact with saliva, nose and throat discharges, fluid from the blisters or the stool of an infected person who is most contagious during the first week of the illness. All infected cases recover without medical treatment by 7 to 10 days. It is most common between ages 6 months and 4 years. Very rarely, it may be caused by another strain of Coxsackie virus EV71 whereby the child develops aseptic meningitis or encephalitis (Inflammation of the brain). This strain may be fatal as in the case in Sarawak in 1997.

Treatment is to provide relief from fever or pain from the mouth ulcers and give plenty of fluids. There is no immunization for HFMD.

Thrush or candidiasis is a fungal infection from Candida albicans. It appears as a red bumpy rash in the diaper area and the bumps are sometimes pus-filled. It may be worse in the skin folds and does not respond to diaper cream. Often the primary source of infection is in the mouth which then spreads to the nappy area from the contaminated stools. It normally starts as a couple of white patches on the sides of the mouth and if not treated quickly can spread until the tongue is coated as well. This makes it painful for baby to suckle. The creamy patches look like milk curds and therefore is easily missed. Use a cotton bud to wipe the white patches. If the patches cannot be removed it confirms that the baby has thrush therefore should be taken to the doctor who may prescribe Daktarin gel for the oral thrush and cream for the nappy area. If the infection is severe it may be necessary for the doctor to prescribe Daktacort which has a small amount of steroid in it to speed up the healing process. All feeding equipment must be boiled thoroughly for 10 minutes to prevent recurrence.

Roseola infantum or false measles is a viral illness in young children between the ages of 6 months and 2 years. The rash is pink and may have small flat spots or raised bumps. These spots may have a lighter “halo” around them and may turn white if you press on them.

Roseola usually starts out with a sudden high fever often over 103° Fahrenheit or 39.5° Celsius. During this time, the child may appear fussy or irritable and may have decreased appetite, mild diarrhoea and swollen lymph glands in the neck. The fever typically lasts three to five days and end abruptly followed by the telltale rash which is usually seen on the trunk and neck, but it can extend to the limbs and face. The rash may last for several hours or days.

A diagnosis of roseola cannot be made until the fever drops and the rash appears, so the doctor may order tests to make sure that the fever is not caused by another infection.

Roseola is contagious and spreads through tiny drops of fluid from the nose and throat of infected people. There is no known way to prevent the spread of roseola. Repeat cases of roseola may occur, but they are not common.

Treatment is to keep your baby well hydrated with lots of fluids and to control the fever to prevent a febrile seizure as about 10 to 15 percent of children with roseola have a febrile seizure.

Knowing the different types of rash and treatment is important to help alleviate your baby’s discomfort.

Acne Bacteria: Does It Really Cause Acne?

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009
Mike Walden asked:

Propionibacterium or acne bacteria is not the root cause of acne, so destroying it can, at best, help you to bring down the swelling that a ripe pimple causes. It cannot prevent acne from forming as it does not play much of a part in the creation of this condition.

The Acne Problem Lies Way Below The Skin.

Practitioners of conventional medicine describe acne as a skin inflammation. This condition is caused largely by factors on the skin surface, the principal one being an excess of sebum and keratin being produced by the oil glands.

The excessive oil blocks the pores of the hair follicle and this leads to the growth of bacteria. As the growth of bacteria increases, small pimples appear, both on the surface of the skin and directly underneath. The ones above the surface are called blackheads and the ones below the surface are called whiteheads.

In reality, the cause of acne lies way below the surface of the skin. It`s not the immediate signs that you have to tackle, not the inflamed skin, not the investigations of the skin type, not the excessive production of oil, nor the clogged hair follicles or the bacteria on your skin; none of these. Acne is formed because deep rooted factors develop an environment which is conducive to its formation and growth.

Acne is a condition, NOT a disease.

Whatever else acne might be, it is certainly not a disease, just as many of the medical conditions found in the western world are not really diseases. Acne RESULTS from a disease and the acne condition is the body`s way of telling you that all is not well. Don`t ignore this message as the balance of your body is at stake.

I wish to warn you that you should not take the words of conventional practitioners of medicine as the whole truth and start treating your acne as a skin ailment and nothing else. The problem can only be found in the deeper recesses of the body.

If you are afflicted with acne, please understand that the real cause of it is an imbalance that has occurred in your body`s system. The rashes and pimples are the outward manifestations of a much deeper problem which you MUST tackle if you want to be rid of your acne and lead a healthier life.

You will obviously wonder why doctors insist on labeling acne as a malfunction of the skin. The reason is that they can make more money by making you buy the worthless antibiotics and lotions.

The truth about acne bacteria:

Acne bacteria or propionibacterium, to give it its technical term, is something that every human being has on his skin. This bacterium is a life form which fights for survival and is beneficial for us. So the malignant organisms which conventional medicines try to eradicate are really very important for our good health and well being.

You may be surprised to know that acne bacteria, so long as it is in tune with the balance of your body, help you repel other bacteria which are way more harmful for you. It exists in all human beings, irrespective of whether they have acne or not and is the major reason for the flexibility of your skin.

The secretions from our sweat and sebaceous glands are what the acne bacteria feed itself on. This is normal for everyone whether they have acne or not.

Acne bacteria do NOT cause acne and is not contagious. Obviously, as otherwise every single individual would have contracted acne since the bacteria is in all of us. Then why is it that only some unfortunate souls land up being afflicted?

The case is the same with streptococcus bacteria which everyone has. Then why is it that everyone doesn`t get tonsillitis or a strep throat? The reason is that, like acne bacteria, it will not strike unless the conditions in the body are right and a specific environment is fashioned.

It is the environment which counts (the acne triangle of oil-toxins-bacteria).

The environment that creates acne is one where there is an overproduction of sebum oil, mainly due to an imbalance in hormones, and this excess mixes with congested toxins which come out through the skin. This mixture is dangerous as it causes bacteria to develop and grow disturbingly fast. The condition which is thus created is the standard one for an acne sufferer: pimples and nodules which are inflamed and pus-filled.

This condition, described above, where the bacteria grows in leaps and bounds because of the admixture of excess sebum oil and blood toxins, has to be prevented. Merely killing the bacteria is not sufficient because it will grow again when the above condition is recreated. So the ONLY way to stop acne permanently is to go to the root of the problem and ensure that this condition is not allowed to happen.

So antibiotics which kill acne bacteria, such as benzoyl peroxide, tetracycline or monocycline are not permanent cures because they do not tackle the root cause of the acne.

Then What Really Causes Acne?

You will, by now, realize what it is that makes acne bacteria grow so drastically and what environment brings on acne. But all this is only what happens on the surface. What we have to know in order to permanently stop acne from happening is the root cause of the hormonal imbalance and the blood toxins that cause the nexus between oil, toxins and bacteria in the first place.

This nexus is created on the surface of the skin because of a process that is affected by changes within the body. These changes are nutritional, hormonal, environmental and even psychological.

Therefore, to ensure a permanently clear skin, you will have to counteract the changes in ALL the factors mentioned above so that bacteria does not multiply but is kept at an optimal level on your skin.

The Truth About Acne Cures

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009
Harvey Vaughn asked:

When you suffer from acne searching for the best acne cures can become an obsession. Ads for acne cures are everywhere, but the truth is not every acne remedy is good for your skin. The shelves at the drugstore are filled with acne pills, products that promise to clear acne and teen acne, and even some topical ointments that promise they are natural acne cures. Many women’s magazines even devote scores of articles to home acne cures or even an acne diet. When you are faced with so many acne remedy choices, it is hard to know what is best for your skin.

The truth about acne is that anyone can get it. Teen acne is not a result of what you eat, what you put on your face, or how clean you are. Don’t feel bad about yourself if you suffer from acne. There was nothing that you did to cause it. The hormones that your body produces have a lot to do with the acne that erupts on your face so most natural acne cures and home acne cures really don’t do all that they promise to do. An acne diet won’t change the way your body produces and processed oil beneath the surface of your skin. Acne pills are not a magic cure all that simply makes acne disappear.

If you really want to clear acne from your face, you need to stop the formation of acne before it manifests itself in pimples. There is no cure for acne, so products that promise you easy acne cures aren’t telling you the truth. Instead of looking for acne cures, you need to start looking at acne prevention.

Proactiv Solution knows that prevention is the best acne cure. As a result, its creators worked hard to develop an acne remedy that goes deep below the surface of your skin to kill bacteria before it has a chance to develop into acne. Proactive Solution is much better for your skin than topical over the counter treatments, because it doesn’t wait for acne to form before it fights it. It penetrates into your skin, stopping acne at the source.

Even though Proactive Solution is designed to be used everyday, it is gentle on your skin. Unlike other chemical laden acne treatments that make your skin dry and flaky, Proactiv Solution is formulated with soothing botanicals like allantoin, panthenol, aloe, and chamomile. It hydrates your skin and leaves it feeling smooth and soft. Many so called acne cures found on the market today are much too harsh and using them every day can actually make your acne worse. Proactive Solution is so gentle that it is actually good for your skin. It won’t dry you out and cause further outbreaks.

Many acne cures that are sold at the drugstore are hard to use. They require multiple steps, messy masks, or smelly solutions. Proactiv Solution is easy to use. The three step process works together to clear acne and keep it from reaching the surface of your skin. You simply wash with the exfoliating renewing cleanser, sloughing off dead skin cells and allowing your fresh skin to glow. Then you unclog your pores with the revitalizing cleanser, refreshing and toning your skin. The last step is to attack bacteria by smoothing on the repairing lotion. The whole process only takes a minute or two each day, but the result is acne free skin for good.

Don’t be duped by the promise of acne cures that can’t deliver. There is no acne diet or super amazing bottle of acne pills that will cure your problem. True acne cures just don’t exist. Even though acne isn’t curable, you don’t have to live with it. You can fight acne and keep breakouts at bay. Using Proactive Solution is the best defense against teen acne and the stress that it can cause.

There are a few medications that a dermatologist can prescribe for acne. While they can help clear up the problem, they don’t indefinitely cure acne and they do cause many different side effects, including depression, liver damage, and even birth defects if taken during pregnancy. Taking prescription medication to control your breakouts is something that should be discussed with your dermatologist, but before you take such a drastic measure, doesn’t it make sense to give the simple process of using Proactive Solution a chance? Proactiv Solution is a great alternative to prescription medications for acne treatment. It is gentle, inexpensive, easy to use, and good for your skin.

Proactiv Solution has helped many people fight the problem of acne. Men and women alike have found it to be a useful in combating breakouts. When you deal with acne, you don’t feel good about the way you look. Proactive Solution can give you back the good self image that acne takes from you.

Skin Cancer Types, Risk Factors, Signs and Treatment

Saturday, February 21st, 2009
Dick Aronson asked:

Skin cancer represents the most commonly diagnosed malignancy, surpassing lung, breast, colorectal and prostate cancer. Tumors develop primarily on areas of sun-exposed skin, including the scalp, face, lips, ears, neck, chest, arms and hands, and on the legs in women. Contrary to popular conception, skin cancer affects people of all skin tones, including those with darker complexions. Most skin cancers appear after age 50, but the sun’s damaging effects begin at an early age, therefore protection should start in childhood in order to prevent skin cancer later in life.

Types of Skin Cancer

The main types of skin tumours are:

1. Melanomas are skin cancers that form in melanocytes (skin cells that make pigment). Even though it is rare, malignant melanoma is responsible for 75 % of all skin cancer related death cases.

2. Basal Cell carcinomas are skin cancers that form in basal cells (small, round cells in the base of the outer layer of skin).

3. Squamous Cell carcinomas are skin cancers that form in squamous cells (flat cells that form the surface of the skin).

Rarer types of skin tumors are:

1. Neuroendocrine carcinomas which form in neuroendocrine cells (cells that release hormones in response to signals from the nervous system.) carcinoma of the skin.

2. Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans.

3. Merkel cell carcinoma.

4. Kaposi’s sarcoma.

Risk Factors

Risk factors for non melanoma and melanoma skin cancers include: unprotected and or excessive exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, fair complexion, occupational exposures to; coal tar, pitch, creosote, arsenic compounds, radium, family history, multiple or atypical moles, and severe sunburns as a child. Anyone with a family history of skin cancer also has an increased risk of developing skin cancer.

Signs of Skin Cancer

Signs of melanoma may include: A large brownish spot with darker speckles located anywhere on your body, a simple mole located anywhere on your body that changes in color, size or feel or that bleeds, a small lesion with an irregular border and red, white, blue or blue-black spots on your trunk or limbs, shiny, firm, dome-shaped bumps located anywhere on your body, dark lesions on your palms, soles, fingertips and toes, or on mucous membranes lining your mouth, nose, ****** and ****.

Signs of basal cell carcinoma can vary depending on the type and may include skin changes such as a: Firm, pearly bump with tiny blood vessels in a spider like appearance (telangiectasias). Signs of squamous cell carcinoma include any: persistent, firm, red bump on sun-exposed skin.

Treatment

Depending on the type of skin cancer, dermatologic surgical treatments include: surgical excision; electrodessication and curettage which involves alternately scraping or burning the tumor in combination with low levels of electricity, cryosurgery and laser surgery. Other dermatologic treatments include radiation therapy and photodynamic therapy (a chemical is applied to the skin prior to exposure to a light source). Mohs micrographic surgery is preferred for large basal cell carcinomas, those that recur after previous treatment, or lesions affecting parts of the body where experience shows that recurrence is common after treatment by other methods.

Skin cancer can be deadly, but nearly all skin cancer can be treated if it is detected and diagnosed early, however skin cancer can recur, so it is important that you examine your skin regularly for any changes and see your doctor for a check-up every six to 12 months.

Chicken Pox Treatment and Prevention

Thursday, February 19th, 2009
Groshan Fabiola asked:

Chicken pox is caused by varicella zoster, a virus that also causes shingles. Years after your child has suffered from chicken pox, that virus may reappear as a rash named shingles. However, this can happen to a very small amount of chicken pox patients.

Since the year 1995, a vaccine against chicken pox is available and many of the doctors recommend it, if not all. Children under one year old can not receive the vaccine against chicken pox. What this vaccine does is to prevent children from developing a very serious chicken pox case. That is to say that the children who have received the vaccine against chicken pox will still go on to develop this disease, but it will be a much milder form. This will mostly happen to almost 95 percent of all chicken pox patients that have received the vaccine. Furthermore, this vaccine has little side effects that can be tolerated very well by the child. However, if your child is allergic to gelatin, the vaccine against chicken pox is not recommended.

Because chicken pox is contagious, when your child is suffering from this condition, the best thing to do is keep him/ her home for a while. The first symptoms that you will see in your child when he/ she has caught the chicken pox virus are some normal flu- like symptoms. Later, the rash will appear and then the blisters, that are characteristic for chicken pox. Another thing that is not very good about chicken pox is that children are more contagious just a few days before the chicken pox rash appears on their bodies. At that time, most of the parents do bot know that their child has chicken pox.

When your child has chicken pox, there are two main things that you should do. One is to relive the itching of the rash, thing that is very normal in chicken pox cases and the other is to keep your child from developing any skin infections. Special lotions, baths with oatmeal or baking soda are very useful in chicken pox cases. Because the rash turns into blisters filled with fluid, that in turn crust and fall off, you must be very careful and keep a good hygiene of your child. When suffering from chicken pox, he/ she might break those blisters and eventually this could lead to infections.

There are also other complications to chicken pox, but they are rare.

For more information about chicken pox virus or even about symptoms of chicken pox please review this page http://www.chicken-pox-center.com/

Constipation and Rashes

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009
DJescusa asked:

Our world stops when our children don’t feel well. Minor symptoms of a child illness we don’t waste a minute and head straight to a family physician. Two common illnesses – constipation and rashes – on kids are constantly usual on ages between 4-6 years old. To prevent them is easy if we know what it is, the diagnosis and the follow-up to impede it from coming back.

RASH

A rash is a change in skin affecting a change in color, appearance, or texture. A rash may be localized to one area of the body or affect all the skin. Rashes can be due to drug reaction, infection or an allergic reaction to the skin. Most rashes caused by viruses don’t harm your child and subsides over time without any treatment. However, some childhood rashes have serious or even life-threatening causes. And as a parent, you should be familiar with it. Rashes can take any forms and causes the skin to change color, become itchy, become warm, bumpy, dry, cracked or blistered, swell and may be painful — especially to children.

Common causes of rashes include anxiety, allergies, skin contact with an irritant, bacterial infections, fungal infections, reaction to vaccination, eczema or acne, sunbur, irritation, autoimmune disorders, lead poisoning, or pregnancy. For children, some rashes are associated symptoms of certain diseases so be cautious of its appearance. Such diseases with rash symptoms have three types: bacterial and viral rashes, life threatening rashes, and fungal and parasitic rashes.

Many childhood diseases have bacterial or viral causes and include a rash of some type. Continuing research on immune system, such diseases become less of a threath to your child’s health. Common bacterial and viral rashes are chickenpox, measles and rubella, scarlet fever, fifth disease, roseola infantum, impetigo and other enteroviruses.

Life-threatening rashes are uncommon. If your child obviously appears ill, you should go to your a hospital or clinic for rashes immediately. Is the Chicken Pox Vaccine Necessary?

Monday, February 16th, 2009
pnkguru asked:

Is the chicken pox vaccine necessary?

I am a business success consultant offering my suggestions based on my own true life experiences and observations that I come across. Some times I experiment some business principles and bring them to light as young entrepreneurs may wish to adopt them wishfully.

I happened to experience a period of mental agony with regard to this vulnerable chicken pox. My life experience may give a sort of guidance to the potential sufferers in course of time.

CHICKEN POX-TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!

My elder son working in Hewlett Packard, Bangalore in India was complaining about body heat and boils that appeared on his body skin and head. After some time, he telephoned to me that his doctor has asked him to observe and find out if it is a chicken pox. The reddish boils started appearing on his body through out and he experienced the dreadful disease of chicken pox.

His better half and my younger son attended him with all sacred procedures with customary way. He slept on a mat with neem leaves spread over and a white cloth covering his body. His diet was only cooked rice mixed with fat less butter milk adding no or low salt.

The disease is allowed to grow and get subsidized naturally. It took about 21 days altogether for him to resume his work in his office. It is a very bad experience to everybody at home!

SPREADS ONE TO ONE AND ALL!

My younger son who visited us in Coimbatore for a short stay complained about the itching on the skin and appearance of boils. Yes. Your guess is correct. He had contacted the chicken pox from his brother and he too happened to pass a period of suffering to complete the cycle. He was attended by his mother, my better half. He could leave his home town only after four weeks to carry on his work in his office at Bangalore.

HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS-AIR BORNE!

In the meantime, my wife started showing the symptoms of chicken pox on her body. She simply accepted it as if it is the play of the goddess, Shakthi. Again the three weeks of horrible experience to all in the home. My servant maid attended her! Occasionally I too should attend her!

Now, I want to safe guard me and also the old lady who attends my wife. I browsed the Internet to find out the true nature of the disease and its scientific approach to combat it. I could get some solid information about the chicken pox vaccine and suggestions to escape from the disease.

I decided to meet the local general physician to know about the ways to get protective measure to escape from the disease. He advised me not to have this chicken pox vaccine at this moment as you are already amidst the people who are suffering. It is also a costly affair.

MEDICINES SAVED ME AND THE ATTENDANT!

He suggested some best antibiotic medicines of higher strength for taking 4 times a day for 5 days altogether 20 tablets per adult person. The tablets are: Aciclovir 800 mg or Herperax 800 mg or Ocivir 800 mg (with Dolo 650 mg 3 times a day for fever if any).

My servant maid and I took the medicines for 5 days, attending the patient simultaneously. The scientific way of approach to this dreadful disease chicken pox helped us to escape from the terrible 21 days of sufferings and mental agony.

VACCINATE WELL IN ADVANCE!

So, I could tell based on my experience that we need to consult a doctor and take one of the above said medicines to combat he disease. The chicken pox vaccine should be administered well in advance and not when you are one among the potential person-would be soon a chickenpox patient!
